The Papeton area is located in northeast Colorado Springs, just minutes from Interstate 25. Papeton is bounded on the southeast by Palmer Park. The land for this park was given to Colorado Springs by the city’s founder, General George Palmer.

Here you will find trails for horseback riding, hiking and biking. In the hills and lush vegetation you easily forget that you are only minutes away from downtown Colorado Springs as you look over the many bluffs in the park. You can bring the family for a picnic under one of the many covered shelters that will protect your from those surprise afternoon thunderstorms. Baseball and softball fields, as well as volley ball courts are also located in the park. For the Golf lover you will find the nearby Patty Jewett Municipal Golf Course and the Colorado Springs Country Club.

A few blocks away you will find the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, home of the Mountain Lions. UCCS has been named “Best in the West” by U.S. News & World Reports for the past seven years straight. UCCS offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in many areas.

What about the weekends? You may want to try your hand at the best downhill skiing in the U.S. during the winter. When summer comes calling, try white water rafting. Take the family for a day trip to the top of Pikes Peak, America’s most famous mountain. If you do not feel like driving up the Peak, consider the Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway. It is open year round. At the top elevation of 14,110 feet you can see all the way into New Mexico.

When back at home in Papeton during the winter, expect to see some snow, but on the average there is less than 50 inches of snow per year in Colorado Springs. Colorado Springs has very mild summers with average highs about 85 degrees.
