Manitou Springs, Colorado Real Estate Information

Who would not want to live in a place where your neighbors were The Garden of the God’s and the most famous mountain in America? Manitou Springs is exactly that place. Near Colorado Springs and located in El Paso county in Colorado, Manitou Springs is a small city of around 5,000 in population. The word “Manitou” is from the Native Americans and means “spirit.”

Inside the city there are mineral springs. They are fed by the pure snow melt of Pikes Peak, trickling through the fault known as Ute Pass, and dissolving minerals to give the water a unique flavor that is enjoyed by both tourists and locals. It is no wonder that this town became known as a health resort in the early 1900’s. The mineral waters and fresh mountain air were thought to cure many ailments of those who arrived at this destination by train.

Although there are not as many arriving today by train as there were in the early 1900’s you can still enjoy a train trip to the top of Pikes Peak on the Manitou and Pikes Peak Railway that will take you to within a few hundred yards of the visitor’s center at the very top of Pikes Peak. From this vantage point you can see for hundreds of miles in any direction. On a clear day, you can even see across the state line into New Mexico.

Other attractions in the area include Cave of the Winds, the Cliff Dwellings museum, Seven Falls and the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife museum. Schools are provided in Manitou Springs by the Manitou Springs School District No. 14. There are approximately 1000 students living in district 14 that attend the elementary, middle or high school and 400 students living out of the district that choose to attend these schools from other towns within El Paso County and neighboring counties.
